Fitness Facts and Health Stats

Safety is an important component of health and fitness, even if at times it doesn't seem so. Preventing injury is crucial to keeping your body strong and energized. It's easy to assume that nothing can hurt us but that's not always true. We've put together some informative graphs that emphasize the dangers of not being safe. Some statistics on activity level and obesity can be found here.

Staying Fit With Dad When You're in College

Being away for college doesn't mean that dads and their kids can't stay fit together. The following are a few suggestions for how dads and college students can stay healthy together during school breaks:
  • Join a local YMCA or fitness facility and ask dad to go along.
  • Set up running/walking days and times for each week you’re home.
  • Ride bikes together around the neighborhood.
  • During holidays, help with meal preparation and substitute fattening foods with healthier options, such as vegetables, fruits, and other foods low in fats.
  • Get together with other family members, friends, and neighbors and go to the park for a game of basketball, flag football, kickball, etc.
  • On hot or rainy days, move aside some furniture and do a fitness video together in the living room. YouTube has many videos for people of all fitness levels.

Workout Videos for You and Dad

There are many websites out there that offer free workout videos that you and dad can do together to stay fit. YouTube is a great source that provides videos for people of all fitness levels. If you start a workout program recommended by any YouTube channel or website, remember to talk to your doctor to get their approval and ensure you are doing everything safely!

Here is one example. More can be found on the Videos link above.
                                                         The Partnership for Male Youth
